Concrete Block-work
On the surface, the first two elements of the concrete block garage demolition were reasonably straight forward. The existing roof structure was free from asbestos and the supporting timber was very standard. The concrete block-work, although heavy, needs to be carefully dismantled. A building of this age and construction can become quickly unstable and will be dangerous to anyone close by. Blocks of this size can easily cause a fatality if not deconstructed using a systematic approach. Sadly, many years ago, this was the case with a local company that we knew. Our primary focus is to always try and dismantle inwards where possible.
Concrete Base
Now all the concrete block garage demolition is complete and all the waste removed from site the garden is ready for some new turf.
The story this picture doesn’t tell is that as the garden was sloping. The concrete base was a lot deeper than standard and proved to be a real challenge to remove. If you look at some of the images below you get a very good idea how thick the concrete pad was. Although It was certainly a challenge, it’s not like we haven’t been here before so all in a days work.
The swift clearance of waste materials was the key to this concrete block garage demolition. Always a bonus when you also own a waste clearance company.

The images above provide a nice insight into how the concrete garage was constructed and installed by the original builder.
What the images don’t show is how unstable the blockwork wall construction was. In this instance, demolishing the garage was certainly the safe decision to make before something nasty happened.
It’s always nice when a garage demolition project is at the front of the site to help with clearing the debris. In this case, everything had to be moved with a wheelbarrow as the driveway would not allow access for even a small truck.
This sort of garage demolition is bread and butter work for us and we love it.
